The SEALION 5 features BYD’s tried‑and‑tested Dual‑Mode 4.0 Super Hybrid system that strikes the ideal balance between electric efficiency and petrol performance. It combines a highly‑efficient 1.5‑litre hybrid engine with a powerful electric motor for smooth, responsive transitions between EV and hybrid modes.

With intelligent energy management, the Dual‑Mode system automatically adapts to driving conditions to maximise efficiency. Under NEDC testing, SEALION 5 achieves combined fuel consumption as low as 1.2L/ 100 km and a maximum driving range of up to 1,030km (Premium model) offering both economy and endurance for everyday use or long journeys.

High-strength steel
The SEALION 5’s body structure is made up of 64% high‑strength and hot‑formed steel for excellent crash protection and durability. Key zones such as the A‑ and B‑pillars, door beams, roof frame, and front and rear members use ultra‑high strength hot‑stamped steel to absorb and disperse impact energy.
Blade Battery
The BYD Blade Battery is a unique design where cells are isolated into tightly‑packed ‘blades’, which is ideal for increased energy density in a more compact space as well as better thermal management properties in the event of damage. In fact, the BYD Blade Battery is one of the only batteries to not experience thermal runaway in the ‘Nail Penetration test’.
Ultra-strong enclosure
The Blade Battery’s enclosure protection system surrounds the pack with strong under‑floor beams, effectively absorbing frontal, side, and rear impact forces to ensure safety in every direction. It even forms a structural component for the SEALION 5’s body.
